Principal’s Report
Dear parents and caregivers
Reports and parent teacher meetings
Reports will be sent home today. As per recent changes to the reporting format from the department, there are no written comments. That makes our parent teacher meetings all the more important – an opportunity for our teachers to talk to you directly about your child’s progress. If you haven’t done so already, please book a meeting time before midday Sunday. If you are unable to make the times available, please contact your child’s classroom directly to make a time. Looking forward to seeing you next week!
Heathy Lunch Boxes
I know getting your child’s lunch boxes ready every day is not everyone’s idea of fun, but setting our young people up for success through having the right nutrition is so important. Getting the balance right, especially when you’re on the run, is not always easy. Here are some suggestions of what a healthy lunch might look like from
Lockdown practice
Your child will likely have been involved in a “lockdown” practice this week. These practices are to help us ensure we have the right systems and processes in place should we be put into challenging or difficult situations. We are of course, mindful of the sort of language we use when explaining these lockdowns, and ensure that we forewarn students, and that conversations about the rational are age appropriate. For our parents too – if you are at school and see a sign on our front door saying “lockdown”, or the fire alarm is going, or there is clearly something unusual going on, please do not come on site, and depending on the nature of the emergency, leave the school vicinity (lockdown) or leave the school grounds (fire alarm) until the issue has been resolved and an “All Clear” is given. Thanks for your support!
Sports Colours Day
Promoting physical activity is another way we can support the healthy development of our students. Next Thursday we have “Sports Colours Day”, when students can wear the uniform or strip of their favourite sports team/stars. Gold coin donation, which will be used to purchase additional sports equipment for use at recess and lunchtimes.
NAIDOC Week and Assembly
National NAIDOC Week celebrations are held across Australia in the first week of July each year (Sunday to Sunday), to celebrate and recognise the history, culture and achievements of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples. NAIDOC Week is an opportunity for all Australians to learn about First Nations cultures and histories and participate in celebrations of the oldest, continuous living cultures on earth. Our teachers are planning different activities during NAIDOC week (July 2-9). We will also have a NAIDOC assembly on July 7, at 9.30am.
Kath’s Spot
I have recently been watching the show “Parental Guidance” on catch up tv, about all different styles of parenting. From Honest, to Lighthouse, Team and Slow Parenting, the show reflected 12 different styles of parenting, and the families carried out set challenges in order to display and I guess test, different things such as Teamwork, Resilience, and Connection.
While I was so glad it was wasn’t me in front of the camera with my parenting on display to the whole nation, it was lovely to watch on, to see how different styles tackled different moments and challenges, and to see the strengths that different styles displayed.
I loved hearing parents ask questions of each other and learn from each others styles, qualities and values that they bring to their family.
Here at Snug Primary we have been helping the students this week focus on the habit of the mind of thinking about other peoples point of view that is different from our own. It is so important to grow empathy for others, and in order to do that, I think being about to stop and listen and hear the world of another, and at least consider what life is like for them, or in this case ‘their point of view’, goes a great way to growing such a great important skill.
Maybe stopping your kids in the moment and asking them “what do you think it means for them?”, may help them to pause and consider another’s point of view. This help’s to show the Value of Respect.
